SEALANTS: Dental Sealants are a clear and protective coating that is applied to the biting surface of the back teeth. The sealant protects the tooth from getting a cavity by shielding against bacteria and plaque. Sealants are most commonly placed on children's teeth because they are most prone to cavities.
PROPHY: Prophy or Cleaning is a scaling and polishing procedure performed to remove coronal plaque, calculus and stains.
SCALING AND ROOT PLANNING: A non-surgical deep cleaning for the treatment of periodontal disease. This is performed while the patient is numb to remove plaque and tartar beneath the gumline.
EXTRACTION: The process or act of removing a tooth or tooth part.
RESIN FILLING: A composite material used to replace an area of the tooth where decay has been removed and a cavity remains.
CROWN: A crown (or cap) is a custom-made covering that fits over your whole tooth after the dentist has prepared it. A crown is usually made out of porcelain that has been fused to metal to withstand biting pressure. We also provide all porcelain crowns when clinically possible.
BRIDGE: A bridge is a dental appliance that is permanently cemented onto adjacent teeth to replace one or more missing teeth. It is usually made out of porcelain that has been fused to metal to withstand biting pressure.
VENEER: Veneers are a thin shell made out of porcelain or composite material. They are custom made and cemented to the front side of the tooth. A veneer can be used to treat dental conditions such as slightly crooked teeth, chipped teeth or they can even be used to cover spaces between the teeth.
IMPLANT: A dental implant is a metal device designed to replace missing teeth. The device is usually made out of titanium and is surgically placed into the jawbone where the tooth is missing. A dental implant is designed to act as the tooth root and can anchor an artificial tooth or teeth such as a crown, bridge or denture. We create and place completed restorations on the implant post.
ROOT CANAL: Root canal treatment is a dental procedure to fix a tooth by removing the pulp chamber of the tooth and filling it with a suitable filling material. A root canal is usually performed when the tooth cannot be filled or restored any other way because the decay has reached the nerve of the tooth or the tooth has become infected.
DENTURE: A denture is a artificial substitute for natural teeth and adjacent tissues.
WHITENING: Whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure in which natural teeth are whitened with a bleaching agent.
