What causes tooth decay?
Decay is caused by a bacterial infection which is promoted by sugary and acidic foods and drinks.

What if I have an emergency and the office is closed?
Contact our office for the after hours phone numbers or contact Adena ER Room.

My gums bleed when I brush. What does that mean?
It could mean you have a dental infection so see a dentist for an accurate diagnosis.

When should I throw away my toothbrush?
Every 6-12 weeks depending on how hard you brush. If the bristles are splayed it is time for a new toothbrush.

How often should I brush and floss?
Thoroughly brush twice a day every morning after breakfast and evening before going to bed. Floss once a day following brushing.

What can I do for bad breath?
If decay and gum disease have been ruled out, it could be other types of bacteria causing the bad breath. We have products available for purchase that can help.

What is gum/periodontal disease?
Gum or periodontal disease is an infection that attacks gums and the jawbone around teeth and can eventually lead to abscesses and tooth loss if left untreated.

What does oral cancer look like?
Oral cancer can have many different appearances. If you suspect oral cancer, contact a dentist immediately.

Do you see children in your office?
Absolutely! Ask us about the appropriate age for your child to start their visits.

What should I do if my child gets a tooth knocked out?
Do not clean or scrub the tooth. If available, put the tooth in Hank's Solution, Save-a-Tooth or milk and contact Dr. Frost immediately. You have the best chance for successful re-implanting if done within 1 hour of the accident. If it is a baby tooth just control the bleeding. We do not re-implant baby teeth. If you feel further attention is needed contact Dr. Frost or the Adena Emergency Room.

Do baby teeth really need to be fixed?
Neglecting to address decay in baby teeth can lead to pain and abscess, and can spread decay to erupting adult teeth. All decay issues need to be addressed.
